Access Youth Quarterly Update

by Saĵa Rosenberg | Sep 12, 2025 | Blog Posts, Updates | 0 comments

A Message from Executive Director, Steve

Dear friends,

September marks the start of my second year as Executive Director at Access Youth Outreach Services. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished — and deeply grateful for all the people—our board, staff, volunteers, and partners–who’ve made this journey possible.

This past year, we’ve:

  • Strengthened all key programs, from Project ReachOut and Youth Empowerment / Family Strengthening, to Youth GourMade and Art Journalling Group
  • Expanded connections with youth, partners, and supporters following a time of transition
  • Increased our visibility in the community through consistent presence at events and markets

As our region grows, so do the gaps. We see more youth struggling with isolation, addiction, poverty, and disconnection. Many don’t ask for help — because they don’t know where to go or whom to talk with, especially on their own terms. Even more, some youth have limited to no scaffolding around them and simply put, don’t know how to navigate our systems.

Our mission is to meet youth where they are, so they can get to where they want to go. That’s why we’re committed to showing up. With your continued support, we’ll keep building our capacity to meet the needs of today’s youth. Please scroll down to see info on upcoming fundraising events, in addition to, some of the donors who have helped recently. I’m excited for what’s ahead. I know the road is long, but I believe in our mission — and I believe in our community.

Thank you for riding with us. We can’t go on this journey alone.

With gratitude,

Steve Kim
Executive Director

Program Spotlight: Art Journaling Group

our partnership with SD43, this year’s summer sessions were hosted at Winslow Centre, which offered a quiet, supportive space for youth to reflect, share and create. Thank you to SD43 staff and custodial team for your support!

Our Art Journaling Group Summer Sessions included 9 daily sessions in July and in August.  Thanks to

We are also thankful for the Cranky Old Fork for their generous donations of hot, nutritious meals for the youth!

Summer 2025 Photo Collage

Our Project ReachOut (PRO) Bus Team had a very busy summer! Each week, our PRO Bus was out at parks, schools, shopping areas and SkyTrain stations looking to meet youth where they are.  However, we also joined many outdoor events and gatherings to showcase our programs and services. The more awareness we have, the more chance a youth needing support will remember we are here and call us.

Looking to have our Bus join your event or school? Please call us today (604) 525-1888

Over the past number of years, the AMES Family Foundation has provided annual donations for our programs. This year, they generously provided additional funds to improve our Bus experience. To date, we’ve invested in air conditioning for the Bus and added various enhancements, activities and furnishings.
