History
The History of Access Youth
Access Youth Outreach Services Society is an award-winning, independent, community-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young people in our community. Incorporated on January 5, 1993, the organization began as a grassroots initiative focused on providing meaningful support to youth facing challenges.
Originally founded as PoCoMo Youth Services Society, the organization served youth ages 12 to 18 in the Tri-Cities communities of Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam. From its earliest days, the agency was committed to developing and delivering innovative programs for youth who are disadvantaged, marginalized, or at risk.
As the needs of young people evolved, so did the organization. In 2013, services expanded beyond the Tri-Cities area, prompting a name change to better reflect a broader reach and more inclusive vision. PoCoMo Youth became Access Youth Outreach Services Society, a name that represents increased accessibility, opportunity, and connection for youth across communities.
Today, Access Youth continues to operate as an independent, charitable, not-for-profit organization. While remaining deeply rooted in the Tri-Cities—Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody—the organization now supports youth ages 12 to 23.
Guided by its grassroots foundation, Access Youth remains committed to helping young people overcome barriers, build self-worth, and reconnect with their communities. Through individualized outreach and innovative programming, our organization continues to create opportunities for youth to reach their full potential.
